Art walks, post-Art Basel Miami

Art walks in Miami-Dade satisfy the post-Art Basel need to engage with artists - 01/07/2014 | MiamiHerald.com: "... Now, it’s a new year and time to satiate those artistic impulses. Given South Florida’s favorable weather at this time of year, art walks are plentiful. Wynwood, Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove, Little Havana and The Falls area are among the neighborhoods that host free art walks every month. These events afford people the chance to peruse galleries and studios that open into the evening to showcase scultpures, paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media and more. The appeal is clear. “I love the people watching of the Wynwood Art Walks. You get a diverse cross-section of folks who love art, and some who think they are part of the show,” says Margot Winick, a Belle Meade resident who attends the art walks in Wynwood on the second Saturdays of every month...." Beaux Arts Festival of Art, University of Miami, Saturday-Sunday

Beaux Arts Festival of Art When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday Where: Grounds of the Lowe Art Museum, 1301 Stanford Dr., Coral Gables (University of Miami campus) Cost: Free, parking is available on site Information: www.beauxartsmiami.org

Beaux Arts Festival set for Saturday at UM - Coral Gables - MiamiHerald.com"Early Beaux Arts members at the Lowe Art Museum on campus would literally hang a clothesline across the Lowe on the grass and invite artists to come hang their works there, Steinhour said. The goal of that first Beaux Arts Festival of Art in the spring of 1952 was to offer a venue for up-and-coming artists to make their name in the community. “The festival is iconic and has evolved tremendously over 62 years,” Steinhour said. As such, this year’s festival will feature the works of 70 artists, like oil and acrylics from Ashley Benton, who have never showcased at Beaux Arts before. These individuals will join 230 juried fine artists who will have the opportunity to be seen by crowds that number about 15,000 over the two-day festival. The art can be purchased. “It’s interesting to see it evolve from something so homespun and simple to this big event.”"
